AMOLED: YME

Presenting the AMOLED GBC - Yellow Mouse Edition!

This is the same motherboard as the AMOLED GBC I built, I just swapped the MOBO and display over to this other shell.

Unfortunately it looks like the seller has shut down on AliExpress as of receiving this.

I purchased multiple things from the shop, but listed the total for this shell alone. All of them are great quality so far, so not sure what happened to the store!

The screw posts are not threaded, so be careful when putting this shell together for the first time. You could easily strip the screw post with too much pressure.

This shell feels great! I am really happy with the way this turned out.

This shell adds a lot of cost to the AMOLED GBC kit which already includes a shell, but I definitely feel this is worth the price. The UV laminated shell feels great in the hand and the print looks amazing! The IPS display can also fit inside of this shell.

The box it came with is super cute and cannot wait to put this on display!

AMOLED GBC

This is one of my more recent projects, and one of the more recently released displays on the market.

This AMOLED display has really deep black pixels and the OSD is controlled via touching the display!

This means the screen could end up a fingerprint magnet, but damn is this screen beautiful!

The display kit does require soldering 1 wire from the display driverboard to pin C on the power switch. It's in a bit of a tricky spot, but it's fairly eay to get at the right angle.

The AMOLED display kit was ordered from AliExpress and came with the shell, display kit, wire, tape, membranes, buttons and new screws. Total cost for the kit when I purchased was $58.76 shipped.

The included buttons are not great, so I went with a set of FunnyPlaying for $1.90

I bought the GBC motherboard off of Mercari. I purchased it for $45.00, after fees, tax and shipping it totaled $58.57.

The motherboard needed a really deep clean and the OEM shell was disgusting, but the board powered on and after a good clean everything worked.

I did not USB-C mod this and am using 2 Eneloop 2000mAh Ni-MH AA Batteries - I highly recommend these to power your GBC. I haven't added a USB-C port to a GBC yet.

I am hopeful that the use of this same display becomes more popular in other handheld mods, because this display is gorgeous!

IPS GBC

This device has been with me for a while, I take it with me nearly on every trip I go on. It's been a while since I picked up this GBC, so I can't remember exactly what I paid for it, but lets assume I spent $50 just to have an idea of the cost to build this specific handheld.

This is using a laminated IPS display and looks fantastic. This mod also does not require any soldering unless you want to change the color of the GBC logo or adjust the X & Y image position on the display.

The screen panel extends below the GBC logo and can be illuminated with a handful of colors or turned off.

If you don't solder the display, the GBC logo will be red.

Similar to the TFT GBA, this also has a touch sensor that sits at the top of the device to control screen brightness.

I haven't added a USB-C port to this, so using 2 Eneloop 2000mAh Ni-MH AA Batteries. Highly recommend these batteries for your handhelds that use AA batteries. They last a lot longer than your standard alkaline batteries. Better for the environment too!
